Beware of your doppelgänger

Is it possible to be in several places at the same time? In fact it is – everyone supposedly has a twin out there. They are referred to as a doppelgänger. What exactly is a doppelgänger? They are a double look a like of a living person, portrayed sometimes as a harbinger of bad luck. These alter egos we have running around might be good or bad depending on the perspective. Sure, they might not look exactly alike, but will resemble someone to a certain extent.

These physical counterparts of us would be quite interesting to meet. Often one could wonder whether or not they would be similar in personality as well to themselves. Then they truly would be a carbon copy. There have been some feature films using this as a theme in their story resulting in sheer comedy.

This time around however, this story wasn’t so comical. Legend has it that if you see your doppelganger you will die. Take for example back in 1860, after winning the presidential election; Abraham Lincoln had a vision of his doppelganger, some time later he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth.

Doppelgängers are also believed to be shadowy figures of yourself; they accompany you throughout your lifetime. Some people say that they are a sign of death. It is also believed that the person who possesses a doppelganger can see it only on occasion. This shadowy figure may appear before your friends and family both acting and speaking as if they are really you.

This is a story about a young girl who encountered a doppelgänger:

“I often wondered what it was that I exactly saw when I was a young girl. At the time, I was 11 years old. I was fast asleep in my room when suddenly I woke up. The room before was very dark then miraculously filled with light.

At first, I thought it was a car passing by, but the light grew stronger. When the light passed I noticed a girl who looked just like me only wearing different clothes. She wasn’t looking right at me; she was facing towards the window on the opposite side of the room.

The window was open and the wind slowly blew into the room moving her hair around her face. At first I wasn’t scared at all; I figured it was my imagination playing tricks on me. Afterwards, I started to crawl towards the end of the bed. I was going to touch this girl to prove it was only my imagination.

Only then, I started to think what if she devoured my soul or something. Quickly I moved backwards towards the headboard on my bed. I was struck with fear; I ripped my room apart to get away from this thing.

The entire time, it didn’t move until the last moment when I was reaching for the light switch. The room again filled with a surge of light. My father heard me scream and opened the door, the doppelganger was gone. I’m 32 years old now and the thought of this encounter still puts a knot in my stomach. Later in life my loving father passed away with from cancer. It was been sad times for me to deal with all of this.” Keep your eyes open, you might just meet your own doppelgänger.
