Three students witnessed one of the most bizarre encounters of their lives during April 21st 1977.  It seems this was a new discovery of something otherworldly. What they witnessed was quite similar as they described what they all had seen. This to date, is one of the most controversial sightings of mankind.

The Dover Demon

With its orange colored eyes described as glass-like marbles and its body around 4 feet tall, it was rough skinned with no hair and peach colored. Its head was rather large shaped like a watermelon compared to the rest of its body. The legs and the arms were described as being long and thin with flexible web-like fingers.

Seventeen year old Bill Bartlett was driving with several friends through Dover, Massachusetts. This happened a little after 10:00 pm. His headlights spotlighted an area along a stone wall.  Along the side of the roadway, was something quite unusual indeed.

A comparison of the native Cree Indians from eastern Canada—has been best described as something similar to what these teenagers had seen. They are known as mannegishi a creature from native mythology. By comparison, this mystery creature also has a disproportionately large head by comparison to its body.

This creature was later given the name “Dover Demon”. It’s tendril fingers and glowing eyes are something which these teenagers would never forget. The second sighting of the creature happened near a heavily wooded area on Miller Hill Road on the same night. Fifteen year old Abby Brabham also claimed to have seen the creature the following evening sitting upright on Springdale Avenue. There were sketches made from what they all had seen.

“I really flew after I saw it,” Bartlett recalls. “I took that corner at 45, which is pretty fast. I said to my friends, ‘Did you see that?’ And they said, ‘Nah, describe it.’ I did and they said, ‘Go back. Go back!’ And I said, ‘No way. No way.’ When you see something like that, you don’t want to stand around and see what it’s going to do.” Bartlett wrote on his sketch, “I, Bill Bartlett, swear on a stack of Bibles that I saw this creature.”

After people heard of this story, the Dover Demon has since gained worldwide attention.
